It’s a pleasure to be back!
Thanks to some Covid-19 Emergency funding from Kent Community Foundation, we have been able to implement additional cleaning, social distancing and PPE measures that have allowed us to re-start our boat build. It really is great to be back and we’re tremendously grateful for the additional funds that helped us.
We need some strong bodies!
We have just added the final plank to our first skiff and it just remains for us to add the keel and then we’ll finally be able to turn the boat. This will call for a number of strong bodies (PPE is available) to help us – if you are fit and able we’d be delighted to hear from you.
Thank you to our supporters
We’re also tremendously grateful to Faversham Councillors Carole Jackson, Julian Saunders, Ben A Martin, Ben J Martin and Eddie Thomas for their Members Grants totalling £2815.75 which will allow us to offer tutored workshops to people from across the town (details below).
We have also been lucky enough to receive numerous donations from individual supporters of the project – you know who you are, THANK YOU! You can donate via GoFundMe or via Bank Transfer (please email for details).
Finally for now, Bensted’s Charity has also supported us with a grant of just over £1800 which has been spent on materials to facilitate the build.
Come and get involved!
Workshop sessions with Alan Thorne are available at the following times Tuesday to Saturday each week:
9.45 – 11.45
12.45 – 2.45
3.00 – 5.00
If you would like to book in, please TEXT Alan on 07865 091155 with the day and time slot that you prefer (he may not be able to answer the phone if he’s up to his armpits in wood glue, so please don’t phone unless you really have to).
We hope to be able to build a St Ayles Skiff for each of the four Wards in the town to race one another and there’s plenty of work to be done, so please do come along and get involved! The workshop sessions are open to anyone aged 12 or above and no experience of carpentry or boat building is required.
Best wishes and see you soon!
